Monday, July 10, at St. Elizabeth's Parish in Ludlow.Alfred R. Alves, 82, his wife, Carol R. Alves, 78, and their son, Darrin J. Alves, 50, all of 68 Newbury St., died in an electrical fire that broke out at their home shortly after 6 a.m. July 4. A faulty air conditioner has been identified as the source of the fire, according to investigators.Alfred Alves was the son of the late John and Casmira Rebelo Alves. A graduate of Ludlow High School, Alfred attended Western New England College and worked for many years as a computer services manager for the former Package Machinery Co., Chicopee Public Schools, and the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company.Alfred was a longtime member and president of the Ludlow Youth Soccer Association.Carol Alves was the daughter of the late John and Helen Lengieza Redin. A graduate of Ludlow High School, Carol went on to work at Monsanto and later worked for many years at MassMutual as an executive assistant. Darrin Alves was a graduate of Ludlow High School and worked in logistics for several local companies.All three family members were communicants of St. Elizabeth's Church, 181 Hubbard St. They are survived by David J. Alves of Sudbury and Daniel J. Alves of Monson, the couple's two other adult children and Darrin's brothers.Visiting hours are 1-5 p.m. Sunday, July 9, at the Kapinos-Mazur Funeral Home, 64 Sewall St., Ludlow. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the Alves family has requested donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA, 02452.
